Legacy, part 2: Choice

by Richard Vince

It could have been the greatest story
Never told: a heartwarming tale of
Growth and redemption spanning
Decades; the breaking of ice and
The thawing of a long frozen heart.

It could have been our own private
Dystopia: a descent into madness
In the inescapable thrall of a despot,
All freedoms destroyed,
All hope eroded.

It could never really have been either,
And yet sometimes I find myself
Imagining what might have been
As though it were actually possible.

The choice was so obvious it was
Not really a choice.

It has always seemed to me over the years that love has never been a choice. It has been something which once approached there is no turning back.
