The Blue Flower

by Leonard M Hawkes

Perhaps the greatest sin is this:
To know that beauty's there;
To've known it rich with passion
And now to have no share;
To have an eye that's trained to see
That godliness beyond;
Wealth forever out of reach--
Perdition of the fond.

Author's Note: As poets, must we daily hunger for unattainable beauty?
