Star Crossed by Richard VinceIt was fate, or something.
Of course it was.
The chance to star in a fairytale,
To find out how it felt to be
Star crossed lovers, to live the story
Behind a thousand songs.
My single mindedness rendered me
A one dimensional character,
Scarcely believable, let alone
Relatable, a cliché come true
(As so many do).
She felt the same, I thought…
Or was that stretching credibility
To breaking point?
We only saw the action, the parts
That furthered the plot;
We didn’t see the background,
The meanwhile, the characters
Who evaporate when they are
Not required for a scene.
But now, a decade and a half on,
It is unavoidably clear which are
Real, and which were
Temporarily corporeal fantasies.
The temptation to open old wounds
Is strong; would I be causing pain
Merely for the satisfaction
Of stopping it?
