Daylight Burglars by Maria Francescathey don't even try to hide.
no masks
no bandanas
no cover of night.
broad daylight
and TV coverage
are not just okay,
but mandatory,
as if there was no shame in their actions -
(actions, thefts, attacks, crimes,
whatever).
words like 'crime'
are now relegated to describing things done by
less important people -
people who act
out of desperation or madness,
not more noble causes like
greed
or ego.
the daylight burglars
do what they do
because they want to
and
they can
and because they believe
that
nobody who could stop them
would want to
and because they believe
that
nobody who would want to stop them
could.
or maybe
it's just that
they started their crimes
in the dark
and just continued their spree
while the rest of us
overslept.

Posted by George Hoerner on 04/23/17 at 02:48 AM Interesting take on much of the current news. While growing up there didn't seem as much emphasis on crime in the news. Or was there really less of it? |
Posted by Rob Littler on 04/24/17 at 05:03 AM Shame is meaningless, or worse, a forgotten emotion, evolved out of the youth, maybe feeling bad is a waste of time until it's all your trying not to feel. |
