I Know You Walk

by Leonard M Hawkes

I know you walk—
Path defined in the soft
Moist canyon soil—
Twigs trimmed, briars bent,
Burdock trampled back—
Flat stones set for
High spring water.

For you? For me?

No, not owned
By you nor me, yet
We know its rugged
Physiognomy,
Have heard its songs--
Confessions of a grove--
Trespassing together--

Separately.
