I Just Sat Down

by Thomas K. Hunt

I just sat down and started to write
It's what I do, and I do it every night
Images appear, and words begin to flow
I lay them down in perfect little rows

I see smiling faces through a porch door
I feel the love, and that's for sure
Raise your glasses to give another cheer
Drink your wine or your booze or a beer

Keep passing those smiles from face to face
Until those smiles fill up the place
Open the porch door when it's time to go
Take those smiles to everyone you know

Family and friends that understand what is real
Sharing the smiles, knowing how good it feels
Blessed by each other for just being there
Each one knowing the other truly cares

Think of the hearts that brought us here
Then raise your glass, and them give a cheer
Keep them smiling as they watch us from above
They all earned our respect and our love

Share what you've learned
You may just help someone
Be proud of what you've earned
Be proud when the day is done

There comes a time when it has to end
Sit back and smile and raise your glass again
We don't need a reason
We have everyone
The porch door's always open
Come on in and have some fun

I just sat down and started to write
This is what came out tonight
All from an image that just appeared
All laid down in black and white right here
