Oh, Catastrophe

by Aaron Blair

Inside my chest the phantom heart beats,
desperate to convince the rest of my body
that there is no vacancy, no void where instead
an organless space could begin to collapse in on itself.
Oh, catastrophe, how you loom,
how you long for a taste of my flesh.
But I'll just keep going. I always do.
I laugh at your astonished disappointment
when I walk right by without a backward glance.
