Emerge

by Richard Vince

As the rain becomes heavier,
My heart lightens and my strides
Lengthen, carrying me ever more
Joyfully through air that is
Alive with the scent of
A thousand colours.

I could hide and stay dry,
But I need to emerge, I need
To get wet, I need to feel
The accumulated grime dissolve
In the water of renewal, of life.

My withered heart swells with
My own personal rain, flowing
Oh so gradually to the surface
To meet its kindred.

Even though I do not feel it,
I am still growing, still becoming
All I was meant to be; pulled up
From the earth by the rain
To touch the Sun.

The world is full of life, and
I am full of the world
And part of the world.

This is not the beginning,
Nor is it the end. My arc is
A part of the great circle
Around this world, the eternal
Song we all sing as one.
