you will see

by Peter Humphreys

I walk blindly
towards the sun
the fish boats
moored
as workers clean
the nights for morn

girls giggle
as she kisses
as never before

the stirless adriatic
just laps
to and fro

children
run
round
the old capstan

I seek to hold
the goldening sun
in my open arms
and hold it to my breast

she kisses me slightly
never to forget
what we had

at the old station
venice bound
the train snakes
below the karst
I raise my arm limply
as she blows
hollow kisses

a little boy
breaks away
the family circle

a small white
kerchief
he raises to me

why do you cry, sir?

because my sun has gone!

he ponders
and quietly murmurs
no, sir
it will rise again
tomorrow
I am sure
you will see

Lovely as are so many of your poems. I don't know how much longer I'll be around. I age as the world does only faster. It has been great reading your work!!
