Reminiscence

by Michael Defries

It's starting to have
that familiar feeling
when you look at it,

when you wake up dazed
middle of night,

you know where you are,

it's familiar,
it's home.

You see things
in the shadow

that are there
but not there,

in a glance,

when you look again,
taken away.

That feeling,
familiarity,

a place you know

inside,

it's the same as
what is,

a mirror you see
in the escape

of water trickling.

Author's Note: A piece about the elusiveness of seeing or feeling something, in a moment when it's night, and in the comfort of your own home. The essence of familiarity that we feel when we know we are home, yet the unknowing of thinking-feeling we may sense, as something else there with us. Whether it is an illusion, or a thing we think we sense, we see, we feel that is or is not, and we are certain or sure, but not sure.
