unquenchable

by Jared Orlando

The future overflows with touching every peak with you,
frolicking amongst the ranunculus fields in unreachable places,
tiptoeing in the most shallow springs of the Irish mountainside,
barefoot on the splintering docks of the Ko Samui coast.

I think of your champagne hair and my mind travels distances,
watered down scotch ice twinkling down airplane aisles,
your sweet head against the window where outside
I smile at cotton ball clouds while islands pop up from below.

We continue to put pock marks on our paper maps,
building up a collection of leaflets, brochures and ticket stubs;
when you look at me, I can see the green of the La Jolla coast,
the ends of your lips curling like the blooms of a Joshua Tree yucca.

We have found our peace in tucked away places,
reclining to the sounds of a quiet wind through the valley,
a kiss that leads us quickly to our bare bodies dancing,
half drunk on wine and half on our unquenchable wanderlust.
