Song of Myself, part 2

by Richard Vince

Do I send smiles or frowns?
My eyes cannot see far enough
To tell me, so I allow
My imagination to fill the gaps.

Others have not always left me
With what I expected;
Others have not always been
Who I expected. Sometimes,
My mind’s eye cannot see
What is in front of it.

Is it a crime that
This is who I am?

Author's Note: Title borrowed from, but content only very loosely inspired by, Walt Whitman. (Mine has far fewer parts than his.)

I have never been who I expected but no one else seems to care so I go on my merry way and whistle.
