Senseless (with Anita Mac)

by Richard Vince

It is in silence that we discover
How quietly we can speak;
It is in stillness that we discover
How gently we can move.

Were breath the only thing to feel,
Skin the only scent…
If we could exist in a vacuum,
We could be intensity perfected.

Our threads are intertwined:
Dark coils around light,
Colours remain distinct but become
Indistinguishable. Cloth covers our eyes:
We see only in touch and imagination.

We are so small here.
So taste me now,
Bitter to your sweet.
Let love and lust linger
In that fine dividing line
Between your senses and mine
Until it disappears.

Dissolving in sweet rain, or
Melting in blazing sunlight:
All is one, and we are one,
Lines blurring, colours blending,
Souls bleeding inexorably into one another.

It’s only everything and nothing:
This notion, this reality;
The ethereal, the corporeal;
The momentary, the eternal.

All is one, and we are one
In this grand intimacy between
Body and soul, the infinitesimal nexus
Of heaven and earth.

Author's Note: My second ever poetical collaboration. A real exercise in broadening the range of my voice through properly listening to another. Thank you, Anita. :)
