By Now You Should Know the Deal

by Thomas K. Hunt

I can't seem to get my mind around it
I'll never understand it all
I know they're feeling something
I read the writing on my wall
Me, I'm fine
I live in my mind
I guess I always will
I've enjoyed doing my time
In the mill at the top of the hill

It didn't take any time to make the climb
It seems like only yesterday
I get to thinking to myself
How did I find my way
I'll wear this smile for a long, long while
Like I did when I was a child
Now that I'm looking over the hill
The hot has turned to mild

I alone created myself
Influenced along the way
I've left something on the shelf
It may still be there today
Don't judge the author
I was just having fun
Trying to entertain everyone
Long distant images of other days
From the land of the golden sun

I may have succeeded
Maybe not to some
It hasn't really mattered
That's been part of the fun
If I made you laugh or if I made you cry
Shed a little tear from a dust dry eye
It's all about living and how you feel
It's all about knowing what is truly real
Opening your mind
There's so much to find
By now you should know the deal
