Drought

by Alison McKenzie

A drought has come
Upon the land where
My poetry grows.

All I feel
I can really do
Is protect the aging roots
From this scorched place,
And hope
When the rains fall again,
I haven't lost it all.

I know the feeling. But my drought has so much else going on that I don't notice it as much.
