An Appointment with the Moon

by Alison McKenzie

The major chords
Have slipped off for a walk,
The shadows cast by her heart
Sifting through the progressions
Until only the augmented,
The diminished 7ths
And the minors remain.

She understands their escape
More than any words could relay.

She simply opens her arms
To the music that remains,
Settling in
For the long night ahead.
