Writing Poems In The Rain

by Britt Zimmerman

There is something in the wind tonight
It carries with it a hesitation
Like a slow of breath

A quiet thunder rumbles
Off in the distance
And the rain begins
To pattern your name
Against my skin

And I sit here with poetry concertos
Playing sonnets in my head

The rise,
The fall,
The lightning
Reflected in your eyes

My hair is blowing
And the storm is picking up speed
Hurrying you to me
Through the sound of wind chimes
And palm fronds

I want to run away
Not forever
But
I do want to leave

Sometimes I dream
With a different name
But your's...
It never changes
Instead,
it waxes
And wanes
Like the sea

Let me be your moon...
