Black Hole

by Aaron Blair

There's a hole in middle of the world,
and I was born there.
It's where my father devoured my mother
and spit out her disagreeable bones,
before fashioning them into a prison for girls,
a cage for those who dared think too much of themselves,
to imagine a world without bars.
I broke myself into pieces I thought were small enough
to allow me to slip through to the other side,
but I only ever pushed myself up against
the curve at the edge of the sphere,
better to admire the bittersweet view
of a place I could long for but never touch.

This is the life I was built for.
