the passing waves of memory in
cells and marrow
the remembrances of what once was
to feel home
to experience the warmth,
depth, and breadth of a love
built on trust, honesty and ador
ation
and now those lips are pursed against some other shallow fellow
the chill is in the early morning dew
of my con
victions and thoughts and
here we are
one headlight out
a careening car barreling down
the highway
staring in the rear-view mirror past
wondering why we continu-

crash.
and I remember as the shiver goes toe top hair top
head top down
spine and wandering:
a road far traveled.
a bright shining mistake.
an unmemorable sunset.
the final first farewell to
the swell of breast and bone
the tie of sternum and hip
