Jealous Gods

by Aaron Michael

we were the words on god's lips
when he spoke this world into existence.
we, the omnipotent magic,
the ageless idea of awesome,
almost within grasp,
yet still intangibly illusive
to those who think they can reach.

if romeo and juliet wasn't a tragedy
it would've been named after us.

we two that weave together
so tightly, like molecules, and bond
in forever will
finally, arm in arm,
stare into the eyes of world makers
while feeling like equals.

and gods dream now
of love they cannot recreate.
