Elegant as Ginger

by Wendy Sparling

Hardwood floors, buffed shiny and slick,
were ready for action, I’ll have to be quick!

With suave gliding ease, I slid across the floor,
tapping steel heels, toes echoed even more!

I was off in a trance, dancing extraordinaire,
Elegant as Ginger, lean as Fred Astaire!

All of a sudden, I heard an almighty scream,
"Off my polished floor, you're scraping them supreme!"

Some day I shall be famous, just you wait and see,
tomorrow I'll try stripping, just like Gypsy Rose Lee!
