No Sunrise on My Horizon

by JJ Johnson

I wait every night to hit my head on the down
Until my eyes won't stay open, until I feel dead
I can't stand the thought of laying down
With sin in my head whenever it's time for bed
Of lying awake until the Sun rises up
When its warm amber light finally drives you away
Before my blood dries up from filling your bottomless cup
The vampire bites before the break of each day
When this lifeless soul can no longer resist
When I want nothing else except eternal rest
To rest in peace and be free of this curse
That sleeps in my dreams like an unwanted pest
And awakens the hunger that only gets worse
To invent another lover with warm flesh to caress
With a velvety soft, chocolate voice
That can smooth over my cold wrinkled sheets
But instead turns to drain away a life void of choice
To silence my heart of the song that it beats
Instead of leaving me empty she fills me again
With loneliness and sorrow and a desire to sin
There will be no relief or end to my recycling life
I will never know love until this ghost is my wife
Till I'm through carving this Crucifix into a stake
Until exorcising the seed of a poisonous snake
