On Valentines

by Leonard M Hawkes

Spring's brightness,
Morning light,
And the lingering
Coldness of February;

But I know those
Soft places:
Fleshy contours I could
Want to enjoy--

Yet, solitary, separate,
Proudly perhaps
And independent,
We greet the day--

Maintaining that We
That others must not see.

You express singularly that some things in romance are private, to be a bit mysterious perhaps.
