Strings Attached

by JJ Johnson

Love is a many splintered thing...
with strings attached, sewing us together
Until heart-threads get wound into a noose
tying us into bondage
Face to face we become puppets of lust
that never come together in a kiss
While noses grow longer from one lie or another
pushing us further and further apart
When instead we could form bonds
that wrap us in each others arms
We must cut the intertwining chords
dangling our hearts above a boiling pit of pain
To set them free eternally
drifting deeply into the wings of uplifting love
Instead of forever falling into the fire
of unfulfilled desire
Releasing the baggage of the past
that has held us down for far too long
When two hearts finally learn to be free
then ascend into the flames of ravenous passion

Cogent. Deep friendship much more to be desired before lust should have its way.
