Can you Imagine

by Thomas K. Hunt

Can you imagine?
There was a day
When no more than a canoe cut through this river
A native man on his native land
A Tuscarora paddling the river he called the Kahnawáʼkye
Meaning to him big waterway
Can you imagine?
Imagine it back then?
The beauty of this river
Virgin soil untouched by man
I imagine that native smiling
Living in the paradise of these 1000 Islands
The evergreens the deer the bear
The foul abundant everywhere
The river fed all the need
It was the center of his world
It was all the world he knew
To him it was everything
Everything was good
Can you imagine?
