by Leonard M Hawkes

You who sing the season's praise,
Polished voices, powerful songs—
Music often written by those
Who truly know His Grace—

O though you sing so skillfully,
O how beautifully,
Expressive, gestured in note and phrase;
Yet in performance is emptiness.

For as you seek to tell His honor,
I would read Him in your face.
