Chambered

by Alison McKenzie

Time was never a line with us,
Nor was it short
Though the calendar
Made a valiant attempt
To prove us otherwise.

We did not unfold
Yet our immortal affiliation
Will tuck me in
This one last sleep.

And if I only dream
All our tomorrows
As if they were;
Let me remain chambered,
Else I wake to face
The remainder of these years
Without the echo of my name
Upon your lips.
