Dragonsong by Nancy AmesThe fire flies
through dragon skies,
the fire flows
from volcanoes.
The fire flows
from volcanoes.
The fire glows,
the dragon knows,
`neath snow and storm
it keeps us warm.
`Neath snow and storm,
it keeps us warm.
Wings, claws and scales
and dragon-tails
were never burned
by worms that turned.
Were never burned
by worms that turned.
A flagon deep,
blue flame and sleep
a taste of death
on dragon breath.
A taste of death
on dragon breath.
A red-tongued flame
would taste the same,
when dragon`s flight
speeds through the night.
When dragon`s flight
speeds through the night.
A double spark
moves through the dark,
and behind it lies
a dragon`s eyes.
And behind it lies
a dragon`s eyes.

Author's Note: A novel I am writing about princes and dragons led to a volcanic cavern scene featuring a dragon-gang feasting and drinking around a table and this is their rollicking song, in a somewhat heavy metal style.
