venice blvd by Artur Desruisseaux
i was walking down venice blvd,
3 pm,
to get beer and papers.
i heard feet behind me
turned but didn't see anything.
at the light i heard an old lady say to another old lady,
"those goddman motherfuckers! can't they get it right?"
the light changed and i heard the feet again,
it was a boy and a girl.
they were giggling and holding hands.
in the store I grabbed my things.
standing in line I saw myself in the store camera
I patted myself on the head
that balding spot doesn't look like its going away
I paid and went back down venice blvd
where i saw a man and a dog sleeping in the street
the dog looked better than the man did
with his crushed poodle hair, cement color, sad and lifeless,
peat moss glued to a dead mans skull,
like seaweed on a sunken anchor at the bottom of the sea.
you need a bath sucka!
I unlocked the door and kicked off my boat shoes.
nothing was waiting like a jealous lover
thank you kindly, for thinking of me
I shut the door
