Exactly As Dumb As You Need to Be by Aaron BlairWhat am I?
I am a dust mote drifting in an amber light.
I don't know what exists beyond this room, behind that door.
A darkness fills the hall, shimmering with thousands
of tiny crystalline teeth, molecular fangs.
It embeds itself into my ridiculous skin,
swims through the drudge of girl
until it reaches my dim, pretty brain.
What do you know, it asks me.
I can't answer. I have no answer.
I have eyes that only tell the truth
when a lie has proven less convenient.
I would run, but I'm not smart enough.
I'm exactly as dumb as you need to be
to imagine everything might be okay in the end. 10/26/2014 Posted on 10/26/2014 Copyright © 2025 Aaron Blair
