Baby & Tea

by Ymelda Ramirez

The sun rises.
Stirring in your crib.
Stillness in my bed.

Yawning and a stretch.
You’re ready to begin your day.

I’m praying for a couple more minutes of sleep.
Responsibility rises.

A happy song to greet a smiling baby.
Tiredness escapes me.
Routine takes over.

Breakfast, morning tea and cartoons.
Tea gets cold. Your tummy is full.

Play time and a bottle of warm milk.
Nap time. I’ll try that tea again.

You’re up.

Lunch, afternoon tea and play time.
Tea gets cold. You learn your first word.

Cranky now, diaper change and a bottle of warm milk.
Nap time. I’ll take a cup of tea to go with laundry.

Who needs a nap?

Laundry and play time, tea gets cold.
Dinner, evening tea, bath time and story time.

Lost the tea.

You sleep in my arms.
Heaven.
Bedtime. Try that tea ONE more time.

Tiredness returns.
Sleep arrives. Tea gets cold.
