Walking the Tightrope Dream by Britt ZimmermanGentle steps across a wire
She finds herself staring down
to distant earth below.
Tiny breath in... then letting it go
she moves another inch forward.
The breeze can be unkind
when you need balance
and she adjusts with a
simple lean to the left.
Her eyes search the horizon
her arms graceful and thin;
outstretched as if calling her lover
to her embrace.
Just a few more feet to go
Tears mix with sweat
and glide down her cheeks
If she fell... it could all be over...
All the pain, all the sickness in her heart
If she just took one wrong step
She could finally rest
"Don't sob" she whispers
She knows it will throw her off balance
Tiny breath in... then a small release
Just a few more feet to go... 09/01/2014 Posted on 09/01/2014 Copyright © 2026 Britt Zimmerman
