It wasn't unexpected. It was not too far from the usual time. Her mother had explained important details. She was skeptical, as it had all been covered in a layer of secrecy and half truths. Yet when it was time for all of them to go to Grandma's house, her sister emerged from the bathroom door. A coy smile. A hint of victory, achievemtnt. Dangling from her hand, a white pair of panties smeared with red.It was her turn.

changing of seasons
unexpected but invariably
spring begets summer.
