Fragile Egos

by John Nivel

How hard it is,
Not to offend,
A fragile ego,
One might choose to,
Caress it like,
A newborn babe,
Speaking baby talk,
"Oh you're so smart,"
"You're so good looking,"
"We all adore you,"
And the fragile ego,
Usually accepts accolades,
As gospel,
Smiling the inner smile,
Of a fragile ego,
Well fed.
