I was going to help you, you ended up saving me

by Christel Crews

With every passing day you remain
Breaking the waves of my normalcy
You make the ever evolving world pause
When you say my name

Without realizing the repercussions
You push the limits of my comfort zone
Requiring a constant study of what is me
Yet you remain the same

Action becomes reaction
And after spending a moment with you
My insecurities rise to the surface
And there is no one to blame but myself

For my past ever haunts me
The pain is still fresh
I bury it, to stay in control
A charade I believed until you came

You call me forth, how do you see
When my strength melts
I pull inside my spinning mind
And you wait till my words take aim

Letting me lay my tattered cards on the table
And you kiss my forehead
Continually accepting me for me
And my mind continues spinning

You break every standard I’ve known, Leaving me
Wondering, waiting, watching, debating for days on end
And then you let me in for a moment
To break me, amaze me, yet again

So kiss me, lay me down
Break through the glass cage I built
And hold me while I evolve
Again and again
