I Loved A Maiden Fair (Pirate Song)

by Jersey D Gibson

I’ve worked on the docks, yes I’ve worked on the sea
But back home there is a woman waiting for me.
I ride the waves, work a ship, and I steal with glee
Yet back home there is a woman that’s for me.
A ballista’s draw and a coxswain’s glee
I still think of the woman that I cannot see.
On timber deck and hawser rope, that’s how I get my fee
She is still there, that woman fair, who is just for me.

So, hear ye lads, and raise a mug
a story no better sung!
I could swing a sword all day
And climb the highest rung!
As the sun climbs the day
I thieve my merry way!
I have a woman I can’t compare
How I love my maiden fair!

A pail loaded up with catch, filled up to the tee
I still have a woman waiting for me.
A trip with a sail, or a fight that’s on the lee
I will always have that woman with me.
When I go and hang hostages from an oak tree
I know that that woman waits just for me.
Sharpen my sword, I’m going on a robbing spree
I do it all for that woman who’s just for me.

So, drink up lads, and hoist a sail
A tale no better told!
A hero am I, in her eyes
I’m strong, and I’m brave, and I’m bold!
If a man would look her way
I would knock him into the bay!
I have a woman I wouldn’t compare
How I love my maiden fair!

Stick me on the land, where I cannot be free
But I have a woman who waits her days for me.
While on the ground I dream of the shining sea
But on the decks that woman’s just for me.
Beach up a boat and rush right into the melee
I know that that woman prays only for me.
I would sail a ship straight into the cree
Just to see that woman wait for me.

So, sing ye lads, and pull a rope
A man no better than I!
On the waters, I’m the fiercest one
At home she’s the apple in my eye!
If she’d leave, you’d see me cry
I’d hate to think it, but I rather die!
I have a woman I shouldn’t compare
How I love my maiden fair!

Author's Note: I made a pirate/drinking song. Seriously. I wrote a story that had pirates, and this came up as a ditty that they sang on their little sloop. So, I'm sharing.

You catch the spirit of the pirate I do believe. My sympathy is with the woman!
