The Porch

by Thomas K. Hunt

Born and raised on the St Lawrence River
Respectfully proud of what's been given
Sitting by our river caught in this peaceful calm
Watching the colors of the day fade with the setting sun
Quiet souls surround us
We see the same that they have seen
We've seen it all through different eyes
Our blood is from their being
Sit on this porch
Light another torch
Show me another sun
Shine on this life of mine
Where the river runs
Spend the day with your nose in the air
Only to smell that fresh clean air
Set your smile free and watch it run
Run across the river in the summertime fun
Sitting by our river caught in this peaceful calm
Watching the colors of life fade with another days sun
Sitting here resting at day's end
Truly content with all our river friends
The roots run deep
We share what we reap
It's the only way
We'll live on the St Lawrence River until our dying day
The river nights are a sacred time
It's all in the frame of the mind
It's something that is real
There's something that you feel
So sit on this porch
Light another torch
We're going to have our fun
Just this side of French Creek Bay
Where the river runs
Raise your glass
Drink from a flask
Let's have another round
Under this river moon tonight
On the best porch in this town

I was born at the mouth of the St. Lawrence, so this sits nicely for me.
