060714 by Uriel TovarHow fast can a song
Turn a cynic
Into a true believer
Faster than the speed of light
Heart tearing around the seems
Pressured contents held in tight
Exploding into reds and blues
Against the walls
Creating something reminiscent
Of Pollock
That is me
That is me against the wall
An abstract image
Skewed and reprinted
Laminated and stuck on
Your refrigerator’s wall
We forget so easily that those notes
Once drove us to tears
Buckled down on the floor
Holding a now warm bottle of
Beer
Compact disc on repeat
Remembering the sweet pain
Of unrequited teenage love
But I am that work of art
Those colors those strokes
The arrangement of motion
In perfect stillness
Those emotions manifesting themselves
Onto a blank canvas
Which your music swelled up
And now that the resonance has been
Absorbed
Do you still feel
The same?

Posted by Felicia Aguilar on 07/28/14 at 09:29 PM The fourth stanza got to me. There are songs that I listen to now that still bring me back to that place in my life when I first listened to them. I still feel the pain, though it is more distant now. Funny how songs can still twist our emotions, years later. |
