We Could Travel The World In A Year Or Just Give Me One Night

by Jared Orlando

When I hold your hand and guide you along,
I’m not dragging you.
I want you to see the things I see,
Step where I step, know me and
Know my days as you see the paths
Where my thoughts go.
Watch as I point out
The places where I hear the bluejays call,
The wildflowers in the intersections
When I walk too close to the highway.

When I hold your hand and guide you along
I’m not demeaning you.

Of all the people in this world
I want it to be you that shares
My eyes, to be a small camera
On my shoulder when I tackle
The world by foot,
Breathe in my air,
Let it fill your lungs,
Paint a smile on knowing
That as long as my feet are moving,
As long as my blood is flowing,
I am thinking of you.

Because love is like a passport
Allowing you to travel to places
That you would never be able to
Otherwise.
Let your heart be
My Roman cobblestone street,
My airplane takeoffs and touchdowns,
My European railway.
And after our plans are over,
We can lay amongst the nestled winds
From my ajar French window,
And let our legs recover
Until the morning comes
