A Place for Only You

by Ryan Nardi

Tomorrow will surely come
but I may not.
And should I not awake
hold on to the picture of us in your mind
--I hope you have it too--

Hold on to the memory
of us lying on our bed of blankets
afraid of what to do with our hands
making jokes and pretending we need to go to sleep.

I'll always remember you
with golden streaks in your hair
face like a child
or some painting of life how it should be.

Don't fall asleep before you
rid your mind of the hurtful things.
I never meant to take off my ring.
I never meant to curse you.

My gardens will always be
a place to grow your food.
And my heart will always be
a place for only you.

I miss you desperately,
though I joke, and I act rude.
I live just that I may see
your face for another day.

The sun is a spotlight
in the the forest or on the beach.
It's nothing at all to me,
if it's not meant to find you.

The forests could burn,
and the beach could be swallowed.
And my heart is a pound of meat
if it's not just to love you.
