Where were you when... (The Darker side of Mother's day)

The hours of mother's day approach
to mock the abandon that I feel
with the abandon she ensured.
I fight the urges to feel
anything for her
like she left nothing
to be felt for.

Eyes seek extrication,
glazed glass observations
of a day in prowess
meant to bathe our Mothers
in gratitude.

Arms woven
thick skinned
embracing brothers,
our daily platitudes
screamed to the silence
of the question,
"Where were you when...?!"

Sycophants
fastidiously become
aplomb
through darkened hallways
of calloused trials.
There is no denial
there is but one emotion I give to you
on Mother's day:
I give you

I know the feeling. Lived my life with it but not worded as you have. Fortunately I had a step who was much better at hanging around. Came around a little late for me but still there through my teens.
