Envy the Sad

by Christopher Shin

I don't know why.
When I see the silver
and the screen above.

That the famous can
make the tragic seem
better then me.

The lingering doom
and the sorrow I feel
seems less expressive
as they cause me to think.

That life is melancholy,
and my own pain is not even
an offering worthy of the stage.

I sulk and huddle in
shadows and think that
even their sadness is the envy
of my soul.

Author's Note: I'm seeing a rise in tragic movies.

Fortunately for most of us tragedy is vicarious. Your poem suggests even only in film can be a bit overwhelming.
