chasing up by Christina Gleasonhaving a beer in the afternoon
because no reason not to:
it's as simple as that.
even as the half and half separates
from the coffee still sitting in a mug
bought out west after bugging out
of the last job and its daily ativan
for art school, its hand-holding
extolling concept and process
over content and product,
poetry degree growing old
in the same file folder
as the paper-thin college lover
with his envelope of receipts
for services rendered, etcetera,
finally fit to be shredded
after the suggested
seven years.
trading up with the taxman
to a higher bracket with
an attractive one-two
of husband and house
killing the credits with
freelance labor and
no dowry to speak of,
save the accounting
of family tapestries,
my big mouth.
it's as simple as that:
letting down chase the up,
stories going flat in a draft.
