Time For A Plan

by Thomas K. Hunt

Time for a Plan

Knocks on the door in the middle of the night
Just wanting someone to hold them tight
Wanting eyes that laid in my bed
Now faded faces that live in my head
I've seen you before; I do recall
Come sit beside me, and we'll catch the last call
I've caught your stare before from across the bar
I'm just around the corner; we don't have to go far

It was another time that lives in my mind
I played the field to see what I could find
I was a younger man without any plan
Completely happy with a one night stand

If I see you again, it doesn't mean that we're tight
No hard feelings if it's just for tonight
You remind me of someone I once knew
We shared one night, and then we were through
Now and then, one would come back for more
I'd hear that knock and open my door
We'd wrestle with passion make each other moan
We'd promise to call and never pick up the phone

It was another time that lives in my mind
I played the field to see what I could find
I was a younger man without any plan
Completely happy with a one night stand

Then one night, I watched her walk in
This beautiful blonde surrounded by friends
I took a shot of courage and made my play
Now we've been together thirty years and a day
I finally settled down but never settled for
One of those late-night knocks on my door
I found the one that will take me to the end
She's not just my lover; she's my best friend

It was another time now in the back of my mind
When I played the field to see what I could find
One look at her and I was a changed man
Yes, one look at her, I finally drew up a plan
