more yoruba creation stories by Gail Wolper
god prefers to live under the sea and rarely emerges
she is beautiful and has an underwater palace
her friend oshun lives above the sea and protects fishermen
and owns women's sexual energy
together they form an immense power
oshun has a sister named yemaya
the three of them formidable and they love children
and protect those who fall into the sea
mothers who lose children into the sea can damp sorrow
they should know there will always be
three women who will protect them
three godesses who will always treat their babies
kindly and with favor
there is nothing to fear
but a mother's instinctual attachment to the baby
prevents her from seeing that
prevent her from seeing that there is no loss
when ones baby falls into
the vast and endless beauty of the ocean
