the plane home
was late

in the quiet lounge
the bartender
was singing

I asked him
why he was singing
for I liked to sing to myself too

he said St. Augustine
taught that singing
was like praying to the Lord

so we sang together

perhaps that is why
the plane was delayed
just so we could sing
