What have we learned?
These times
That we’ve gone through
Have shown us little enough
To keep us from waking from
Our sleep

With our eyes crusted over and
Beds sunken in
Our bodies have become
Remnants of
Something a little more human
Than what we’ve wanted to be
And still we remain asleep
Unaffected by the social circumstances
Around us
And in the dream state we are content
Sad globular masses
Amassing to nothing
Good only for dampening the ground around us

We’ve let it come to this
Allowing ourselves to be sold
And bought
A commodity for the upper crust
A level we have been fooled into
Thinking we have achieved because
There is a television in every room
And a personal computer in every pair
Of hands
And yet we’ve amounted to nothing
And we’ve come
Only a little further than what we were
Three thousand years ago
And yet we still sleep and enjoy
Ourselves in our dreams
Not turning or making a sound
Undisturbed as we drown ourselves
In our pillows and wait for
The worms to come.
