Senseless and Starbright

by Megan Guimbellot

Your whispers slip across the grass and set it dancing//
We rest on our backs, dew-soaked and shivering// I'll tell you, darling, it is more than just the night air that's got me trembling
And I swear there is no humidity here, but tonight is heavy with your skin so close to mine
You say you like the honesty in my eyes when they are mixed with starlight//
like a cat I see you in the dark,
angles and contours and shadows
I see you,
really see you
and feel drunk though I haven't touched a drop//unless you count the blood I feel pulsing through your veins
I drown myself in your heartbeat/In the wilderness of your eyes
Until all my senses refuse to work together anymore to take you in
Like jealous lovers they compete to see who knows you best//who is the most familiar with the landscape of your body

I test them out one by one in the green grass as the summer dies around us.
