Using My Skin As A Dance Floor

by Jared Orlando

She says beautiful things
As I trace paths
Like tiny tributaries
Over her eyes
Playing a faint piano
Down the smooths of neck
Causing sweet
Polka dots to bounce
Off of a midnight dress onto
The plush of stark white carpet
While planes and cars and crowds
Gather and mix and deplete
She cues Yellowbirds and breathes
And the movement of her chest
Brings me in, my ears
Sensitized to the brink of
Complete silence
The pads of my fingers
Igniting
I notice a rhythm
Shoulders bending, arms
Synchronized
In the lack of light
I feel you swaying
Using my skin as
A dance floor
For it's the music that
Connects your world
Together, stitching an
Otherwise hopeless quilt
As you and I become
Inseparable pieces of
Bodies floating down
Tablature filled with
Dotted quarter notes
Rising with every crescendo
Adagissimo
Affrettando
Allegrissimo
Dal segno al fine.
