Netherland

by June Labyzon

I crawl into the stuffy
comfy armchair, four
times my size.
Down, down, down
I sink.
into the plush tattered
softness
and
fall asleep.
dreamingthe dreams
of others larger
than I am.
My miniaturization
transports me
into the netherworld,
where all creatures
large and small
come together.
The chair begins to grow.
I cling tightly to it’s fabric.
The growth continues
until the chair explodes
into tiny pieces of wet cold
icy pellets.
propelling me to the hard surface
I sit infinitesimal and forlorn.
clutching one of Alice’s
pills in my hands,
I contemplate
whether to swallow
or chew.
